How to Create a Power BI Goals Scorecard?
To create a Power BI Goals scorecard, follow the steps highlighted below:
Step 1: Log into Power BI Service i.e. https://app.powerbi.com/
Step 2: Select Goals from the navigation pane tab – New scorecard.
Step 3: Provide Goal name, Owner, Current value and Target value, Status, Start date, and Due date. Click on Save.
Step 4: Specify the color coding to define the performance. For example: Green and red for On Track and Overdue respectively
Step 5: Define any data point, charts, or graphs to connect with your current value and target value.
Step 6: Apply formatting as per your requirements.
Step 7: Once the goal is created, it’ll be visible in a scorecard layout as per below.
Step 8: Repeat the steps above to create multiple goals and arrange them as per your choice.

In this example, we will demo Power BI Goals using the Power BI metrics feature in Power BI Service by creating a Power BI metrics scorecard to monitor HR metrics. HR Metrics scorecard is primarily created to monitor the various Human Resource KPIs that include

To create the Power BI Goals metrics for HR metrics, follow the instructions below:
Step 1: Log into the Power BI Service, select Metrics from the navigation pane, and click on New Scorecard.
Step 2: Provide the Metric Name, Owners, Current value, Target value, Status, Start date, and Due Date. Click on Save.
Step 3: This will create the scorecard along with the overall status dashboard.
Step 4: Click on More options and choose New submetric.
Step 5: This will open up a new submetric option to be filled in.
Fill up the details and click on Save.
Step 6: Repeat the same process to create submetric.
Step 7: This will create a Power BI scorecard metric where data is automatically rolled up in a unified and hierarchical manner. You can also view the overall progress on each of the scorecards you have created.
Step 8: Provide a name to your scorecard by clicking on the Edit icon.
Once you have edited the name, you will be able to view the scorecard name.

In this example, we will demo Power BI Goals by creating a Power BI metrics scorecard to monitor Sales metrics. The sales Metrics scorecard is primarily created to monitor the various Sales goals and KPIs that include
- Achieve a gross revenue of $10,00,000
- Introduce new products by this fiscal year
- Decrease the sales cycle days to 30
- Increase revenues by selling premium features to 10% of existing customers
- Improve overall Sales growth
- Achieve new customer acquisition at 10% each quarter
- Streamline the customer acquisition process
- Achieve 1000 sales calls per quarter
- Reduce the wait time for customer calls
To create the Power BI Goals metrics for Sales metrics, follow the instructions below:
Step 1: Log into the Power BI Service, select Metrics from the navigation pane, and click on New Scorecard.
Step 2: Provide the Metric Name, Owners, Current value, Target value, Status, Start date, and Due Date. Click on Save.
Step 3: This will create the scorecard along with the overall status dashboard. Click on More options and choose New submetric.
Step 4: Fill in the details you want to track and click on Save.
This will create a submetric under the parent metric goal.
Step 5: Similarly, repeat the above steps to create all the goals for this Sales metrics, i.e., Achieve a gross revenue of $10,00,000

In this example, we will demo Power BI Goals by creating a Power BI metrics scorecard to monitor Marketing metrics. Using Marketing metrics, you can monitor various metrics such as the total number of views, referrals, website performance, traffic volumes, and overall marketing benefits for your organization.
Here we have created the below goals following the steps as outlined in the above examples
Goals include:
- Decrease the overall bounce rate from the current site
- Improve CTR to 6% on the sign-up button
- Increase the total number of views on the views by 5%
- Perform at least 5 A/B experiments this year
Once you have created the goals in Power BI Service, they will be visible in the Metrics tab.
